Interview : Joomas from Badger Milk

When and how was your band created?
It was cludy autum night when I(Joonas) and Arttu were drinking some "lemonade" together at friends party and we got pretty drunk. I think year was 2004. We talked about music as I always do when I have tasted some sweet mother alcohol. Then we decided to create band that will Conquer the world. Arttu knew Niksu and said that he's just right guy to play drums in our phenomenal band. Suprisingly we remebered our little converstation next day and had the first rehearsal after cuple weeks.

Where is the name of the band coming from?
We had difficulties to find name to our band 'cos all the "good" names were already taken. Your name comes from the movie called "Animal". There that guy buys Badger Milk from TV. Pretty crappy movie but so were we! (I don't say we are any better nowdays)

What musicians or artists did have a major influence in your life / work?
All those Americans! Lagwagon, Green Day(In their early days), NOFX, Bad Religion ect. The list is almost endless. Oh I forget that the greatest influence for Arttu must be TOTO.

What are the positive and negative aspects of being a musician in Finland?
Punkscene is quite small in finland so it's hard to get gigs and records sold. But when you get people to listen you and they come to listen us it's twice rewarding experience. Finns are great audience.

How could you define your style of music?
We are punk! Well, sometimes not. We are like first sex experience: fast tempo, ends quickly and nothing goes like it should. If bands would make children we would be result from gangbang of Blink 182, Lagwagon, NOFX and Green Day.

During the years how has your musical style changed?
We play faster and now sometimes our song has more than three chords.
Hooray!!

How do explain these changes?
Well, we have learned to play little more complicated things. But not too much!!

What are topics you treat in your songs?
Mostly our songs tell about sex. Arttu writes all our songs and he's horny single guy in modern world so what would you expect? There are also other topics but they aren't anything as important as sex.

What is your favorite song in your repertoire and why?
My favourite song is almost always that "newest" song. If I have to say one I would pick "countrysider". It's going to released in somewhere in future. I hope.

Do you actually prefer performing your music live or in a studio?
Live performing is why everybody does this thing. Studio sessions are also good time but live is what makes playing really fun.

During the process of making a song, what is the moment that you prefer?
That moment when song is completely ready.

A stupid question but... what is among all the songs you've been listening in your life the BEST song?
Well, there are so many songs in the world that it's almost impossible to say one song...

What is your opinion, as a musician, regarding internet?
Internet is the greatest way to give people information about your band. There's no better way to do it as easily as in internet.

What are your projects?
Badger Milk is all I have. Arttu and niksu have Harcore kind of band called Shitsnackers

What "image" do you have of French music?
I think I haven't heard anything else than French dance and techno music. I'm pretty sure they do also other kinds of music but don't remember any now.

Is there one French song that you prefer? If so, what song is it?
I don't know specific song but those dance song where hot girls say something in french are pretty cool.
