Interview : Petri from Dixi

When and how was your band created?
Dixi was originally founded in 1985. The current line-up was formed in 1997 after Lynyrd Skynyrd performed in Puistoblues at the summer of 1996.

Where is the name of the band coming from?
It was Caesar himself who used the word dixi when the negotiations ended without any settlement and usually that meant war. In addition there is a hint to the word Dixie; which means the old south of the USA.

What musicians or artists did have a major influence in your life / work?
We all have our own big influential artists and bands but to Dixi the most influential bands are Lynyrd Skynyrd., The Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule, Blackfoot, ZZ Top, AC/DC to name a few.

What are the positive and negative aspects of being a musician in Finland?
Our style of music does not have too many fans here in Finland. To our surprise the audience is very open-minded and it's a whole lot of fun to play here.

How could you qualify your style of music?
Rock'n'Roll is definitely our thing. Mostly we play Southern Rock but we also listen and play all kinds of other styles.

During the years how has your musical style evolved?
Our sound and playing together as a band has improved a lot. This has opened up new possibilities and ideas to try. Also we are concentrating more than before on developing our own material instead of doing covers.

Do you tour regularly? Do you prefer performing your music live or in a studio?
We are definitely a live band and yes we tour pretty regularly. It seems that the amount of gigs we do is growing each year.

What kind of music / What artists do you currently listen?
Can't speak for the others but I'm listening to all kinds of music. Recently I've been listening to Black Crowes and Norah Jones (they mix together like jelly and ham ;).

What are your actual and future projects?
Currently we are making material for our own album and doing gigs. We have also taped a couple of gigs for the album. In the future we are planning to publish our own long play.
