When and how was your band created?
In the early 2003 couple of young alcoholics started to create sounds to pleasure themselves. In the summer 2005 ranca established it´s final form until these days. It was clear from the beginning that we were a group to create music, not just to perform other peoples work.

Where is the name of the band coming from?
"ranca" is almost a finnish word to "spine"

What musicians or artists did have a major influence in your life / work?
Every bandmember have their own influences from finnish countrymusic to trashmetal. Mine is Kauko Röyhkä.

What are the positive and negative aspects of being a musician in Finland?
Positive aspects might be the booze´n women. Unfortunately in Finland one doesn´t make living through music very easily.

How could you define your style of music?
It´s rock in finnish with a touch of metal´n proge.

During the years how has your musical style changed?
Naturally it has grown to be more difficult and variable but I think the process has a mind of it´s own and that´s a good thing.

How do explain these changes?
Players have become more skillful and as I mentioned earlier the process has a mind of it´s own.

What are topics you treat in your songs?
I suppose the songs are about normal life with ofcourse a little spice. People don´t want to hear about me answering questions in internet if it doesn´t include a little bit of grin´n hate.

What is your favorite song in your repertoire and why?
Sarvi. It´s a nice song about not so nice things :)

Do you actually prefer performing your music live or in a studio?
Live! Doh!

During the process of making a song, what is the moment that you prefer?
The moment just before the song is ready and everybodys arguing about some little things that doesn´t really change anything. It is a beatiful occasion as 5 brains bounce ideas around.

A stupid question but... what is among all the songs you've been listening in your life the BEST song?
Aaaammm... It is a stupid question but I suppose Stairway to heaven is close.

What is your opinion, as a musician, regarding internet?
Internet is a scary monster.

What are your projects?
Ranca.

What "image" do you have of French music?
U-la-la bebe. French isn´t the best language to perform music in my opinion. Sure there are exeptions.

Is there one French song that you prefer? If so, what song is it?
"Elle".
