Restaurants in Finland : Kappeli

When was established Kappeli and who had this idea?
Present Kappeli was established year 1867. The first restauranteur was Louis Kleineh.

For the persons who don't know well Helsinki, could you explain where Kappeli is located?
Kappeli is located in the centre of the city in Esplanad park, near the main main market square and the sea side.

What kind of environment is it?
Because Kappeli is located in the park, enviroment is peacefull and nice. One can enjoy the white views of winter and the flourishing sunny park in summer.

Is the location of a restaurant an important thing?
Of course, Kappeli is easy to find, close to everything and transportation facilities are good and near ( bus, street car, railway station, boats etc. )

How would you present or describe Kappeli?
Kappeli is one of the oldest restaurants in Helsinki. It is a unique and beautiful glass building with a fantastic view to the Esplanad park. Kappeli offers you A la carte restaurant, Bar and Cafeteria and during the summer time terrace.
Kappeli has atmosphere where you can enjoy, relax and have a good time. Kappeli is always value for money.

What kind of cuisine do you propose?
Scandinavian, classic kitchen

How often do you change the menu?
3 times a year

How do you select your chef?
He has to be a real professional with a good sense of style and taste. Our present chef came from Palace restaurant, one of the best gourmet restaurants in Helsinki

Is it difficult to find a good chef in Finland?
If you are a restaurant without a good reputation, yes.

Regarding the decoration of your restaurant, did you choose / follow a certain theme or a certain style?
We want to be styleish, modern restaurant with respect to our history. Our style is classic and calm.

Is the decoration of a restaurant important?
Yes, it always nice to relax in beautiful surroundings and eat and drink from nice utensils. Kappeli uses china and porcelain made by Iittala, the famous Finnish designor firm

It is always necessary to discuss a little bit about money... What is the average price that a couple who come to have a classical meal should expect to pay?
Without drinks about 35,- euros

To conclude this interview, are there any projects or happenings in the near future for Kappeli?
We shall change the furniture of summer terrace; it will be the best in town.
